New Richmond Utilities Offers Scholarship Programs

New Richmond Utilities is offering a Public Power scholarship for local high school students. The $750 scholarship will be presented to a high school senior who plans to attend a two-year technical college or a four-year university.

Applicants will be judged on a variety of criteria, including their work on an essay titled, “Our Community Connection: The Value of Our Municipal Utility,” academic and extracurricular achievement, work and volunteer experience, and future career goals. To be eligible to apply, students or their parents or guardians must be customers of New Richmond Utilities. Dependents of utility personnel are not eligible.

New Richmond Utilities is also offering a $750 scholarship for students seeking a career as an electric lineworker. The scholarship is available to students enrolling in an Electrical Power Distribution Program at a qualified community college or school. Eligibility does not require students or their parents or guardians to be customers of New Richmond Utilities.

New Richmond Utilities’ scholarship program is designed to provide educational opportunities for promising local students and to promote awareness of New Richmond’s community-owned utility.

The deadline for scholarship applications is April 16, 2007. Recipients will be announced in May, 2007. For application materials and program guidelines, contact the High School Guidance Counselor, or New Richmond Utilities at 156 East 1st Street, call 246-4167.
