Celebrate energy awareness

October is National Energy Awareness Month and a great time to practice energy efficiency and conservation. The goal of Energy Awareness Month is to promote a greater public understanding and awareness of energy sources, how they can be used wisely and effectively, and the importance of energy to the economic prosperity and future of the United States.

In 1991, former President George H.W. Bush proclaimed October as Energy Awareness Month. Since then, the U.S. Department of Energy has been conducting energy awareness campaigns that promote the wise and efficient use of our nation’s energy.

Americans are increasingly aware of high energy costs and environmental quality issues, but we need to be more aware of the energy efficient solutions that are available and actions we can take to reduce energy use and costs.

In October, concentrate on reducing electricity use in your home and help reduce your energy bills! Purchase energy efficient appliances and electronics, replace your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescents and incorporate more daylight into your home to help reduce the overall usage of electricity.
